  • The dot conf 2010
  • Last week (22nd July 2010) I was lucky enough to attend the first ever dot conf in the NCI in Dublin, Ireland. What is the dot conf? The dot conf is a new web technology conference for anyone who works, rests or plays with the internet. It’s a one day event and it's free. Essentially it's a teddy bears picnic but with internet folk instead of bears.

  • Mobile Web 2.0 "Dramatic Developments" from AT&T Really not all that dramatic....
  • Well, I'm sad to report that the folks over/up/down at AT&T wireless appear to not quite have their act together when it comes to what is the 'next big thing' in wireless. I had really been hoping/anticipating that the webinar they hosted on June 30 entitled "Dramatic Developments in Mobile Web Technology" was going to provide something concrete and actionable for you (and I), alas, that was not to be the case.

  • Drupal 5 - Progressive downloads in "private" mode
  • Just a quick one to let anyone using Drupal know that it *is* possible to serve files using HTTP_RANGE! After a little bit of digging around, Andrea and I found this patch file (attached to this post), which allows Drupal 5 to serve files to range-supporting clients. Why bother with this post? Well, the iPhone doesn't support file-downloading, nor does it support multimedia file-streaming, but it does support progressive download via http!

  • Trinity College Dublin - TA-DA, Research and Secret Projects
  • Yesterday (Wednesday, 3rd December) I had the honour of being invited along to Trinity College, Dublin, to give a slightly modified version of the presentation I gave at the recent Drupal Ireland Meetup on TA-DA (our mobile browser test suite) - which I've attached to the end of this post.

  • One web 2.0 - social edition
  • I bet I am not the only one wondering what Nokia was going to announce yesterday... In addition to the N97, Nokia Messaging was the big news. Put short, Nokia Messaging is enabling a bunch of IM-like services on the phone. In my mind this is an important change in the traditional mind pattern device manufacturers, and MNOs, have had until the iPhone.

  • Hotbeds of Mobile Development
  • When you register for mobiForge, we ask you a few optional questions about who and where you are. This is not because we are running some elaborate email spam scheme, but basically because we like graphs. In particular, we ask you to provide your city and country. We thought we'd let you know where the hot beds of mobile development are around the world - at least for a sample of the 22,000 users who've registered on mobiForge.

  • Vote for your favorite mobile app
  • Last week I posted that it was nomination time for the Open Web Awards by Mashable. Nominations have closed, and it's time to get voting. I've always wanted to say this, maybe wearing a tuxedo and under bright lights, but here goes: And the nominations in the category for best mobile application are...

  • Drupal Ireland Meetup - 2008
  • On Saturday 15th November I, along with Andrea, Ruadhan and over 70 (yes you read that right, over SEVENTY) other Irish Drupalers rolled over to DIT Kevins Street for a spot of Drupal-centric discussion and joviality.
