Depending on what you want to do I would recommend:

Use Wordpress if you just want to blog. There are quite a few mobile extensions for wordpress.

Use Drupal if you want a full content management system. There is an article on dev.mobi that describes how to make a drupal site mobile

Drupal is more appropriate as CMS and more flexible for building multiuser communities.
You might be also interested into mobile publishing clients. Wavelog from www.telewaving.mobi is able to post text, sound, photos and videos to web sites both powered by WordPress and Drupal.

I have been using Joomla for mobile for the last since it was still Mambo. I would have to say that Mambo/Joomla can be the most flexable CMS for mobile. The best thing about Joomla is the portability of components though the use of modules. Using modules just as you would a mobile deck/page. Using XML/RPC mambot allows you use modules to externally in mobile pages or widgets. I am also in the middle of a rebuild at www.txtpeeps.com using community builder and gallery plugins if anyone wants to give it a try.

I'm working on Wap-2-Go Mobile CMS, which is currently available as a dedicated Mobile platform for PHP-Nuke (and variants) CMS users. Aegis Mobile has developed a CMS that works across devices and platforms. It's UI is Droopl based and it allows you to manage content across over 300 devices but also target functionality and design at specific groups of devices based on parameters like function (GPS enabled, touch screen etc..) or user information.

CMS can use different platforms like Java, ASP.NET, PHP, Perl. From those that use PHP, according to php tutorial, most popular are Drupal,Mambo, PHP-Nuke, TYPO3, WordPress

WP is te best CMS at the moment..but you also can use joomla if you have a skill in PHP..but I choose WP

I second that, but then that's the only solution I've used, haven't tried anything else. I'm looking at seriously going into the mobile sphere and would like more tips and advice on this. I note the last post was 26 weeks ago so am hoping it will be kickstarted.
