The WEB AND MOBILE APPLICATIONS DEVELOPER - CONSULTANT position is an experienced, senior-level role within Allstate Insurance.
As an Applications Developer - Consultant, you will be responsible for creating detailed technical specifications, developing application and system code, participating in code reviews and module testing, and supporting on-going maintenance.

Primary responsibilities include:
* Analyzing and develop solutions to meet business, functional and high-level technical requirements.
* As a referral expert in programming languages, data structures and design methods, evaluates detailed technical design components.
* Assisting in the creation and reviewing detailed project estimates and work plans.
* Determining programming approach, tools, and techniques to best meet business requirements.
* Programming of complex code requiring subject matter expertise or workload balance.
* Ensuring code reviews are conducted and quality standards are achieved for changes, enhancements, standards compliance and systems interoperability.
* Applications System Architecture - Demonstrated knowledge of how business applications and support systems are structured with detailed systems architecture knowledge to support the business area.
* Program Documentation - Demonstrated ability to translate detailed and complicated technical ideas into easily understood documents.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience required:
* Minimum of 5 years of web development experience
* Minimum 3 years of experience with Web Services by using SOAP and REST base implementations
* 2 years of mobile platform development such as BlackBerry and iPhone
* Familiarity with BREW is a plus
* Experience of working with middleware solutions.
* Strong development experience with Java and JME
* Experience of working with CVS or ClearCase
* Basic understanding of databases structures

Experience preferred:
* Overall understanding of IT infrastructure
* Working knowledge of Web and Application servers
* Familiarity with WebSphere is a plus
* Experience with Rational Application development tools
* Ant scripting tools
* Understands SSO functionality
* Experience with Portal products is a plus

Computer proficiency:
* Windows, Unix, SQL clients, Rational, UML design, MS Project Visio

Education
* Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or equivalent
