I would like to ask a question in regard to using images when presenting mobile web pages.
I am working on our initial initiative to create a set of mobile web pages for our financial institution. My thoughts and feelings after having read numerous articles on mobile web is that these pages should be simple, easy to navigate and are aimed at our customers needs.
That being said I am being asked to include graphical images for special offers or ads. My personal opinion is that we should be staying away from images for a number of reasons.
1) Can increase load times.
2) Users who pay to download will be charged more.
3) Users would be using this new service for a set purpose, rates, branch ATM locations, contact phone numbers, account access etc.
4) Will cause other content to be pushed further down the page.
What are other peoples opinions on this?
Thanks,

images are good for providing pages attractive for users. Of course you should not abuse from them. For creating your pages what about using an integral platform that do the work for you: MyMobileWeb

If you're providing (functional) pages for users for specific purposes, such as banking, then I'd steer clear of the additional baggage caused by bigger pages (ie: images)
Speaking purely as a user, I want my mobile experience (with regard to banking) to be as quick, as easy and as convenient as possible. I don't want to have to enter an essay to authenticate, nor do I want to have to scroll down 3 pages of crap before I can do what I came to do.
That said, there are no mobile banking facilities in Ireland yet, so my opinion may change after actually using one.
Don't 'bank' on it though ;)

Hello,
If the images are being used for offers and ads you may want to also base the decision around the goals of the campaign and the likelyhood that images will enhance click-through rates.
It's not so much about making the offer visually attriactive as it is about attracting attention, clearly conveying the offer and presenting a clear button/link for the call to action. If all this can be comfortably acheived through text and/or if the offers are non-critical you may be just fine with text only. Conversely, you may find that a small number of well-designed, strategically placed images could make a huge difference to your click-through rate while not proving gratuitous from a page weight point of view.
