Hey Guys,
Looks like i joined here at the right time. With the new redesign of "mobiforge" and all. Gotta say it really looks awesome.
Well, my name is Chris and i live in South Africa. Luckily we have millions of people who use their phones everyday for the internet because of a chat program called mxit so our market is increasing really rapidly.
Anyways, i look forward to the "explosion" of the mobile web which seems to be inevitable!
My name is Martin en working on .mobi sites since a year or so...
Always developing in ASP.NET and that is not the easiest language to follow the .mobi guidelines.
Owner of about 100 .mobi names which will be sold or developed.
My name is Craig Newton, I am a Mobile Application Developer for a company in Cape Town, South Africa. Busy building an Instant Messenger / Web Browser for mobile phones using Java Mobile (J2ME).
I have also used WuRFL to build a mobile content collection site with PHP for the company I currently work at. Mainly following the guidelines mentioned on the DotMobi site for building mobile web pages, also have the book and love it.

I'm Jamie and been around the old site for a while (1 year it says).
I have worked with Drupal in the past and made the 'accessibility module' for it,
that allows content to be 'scaled' for mobile devices using a lightweight detection script and
some jiggery pokery to put everything together.
Currently trying to promote my latest mobile site: Mobile movie database
my first .mobi and moving away from the mobile development and towards mobile analytics.
friendly hello! i am a fellow drupal user in ireland. we're planning a drupal meet-up in november. i hope some people from dot.mobi would be able to come... and maybe present something? i saw 'zoro' on IRC tonight. hope to see a few of you, if you're not too busy! or you could come and bring some bumpf to hand out :)
I am desiring to develop (hire that is) a game-changing mobile application. Bet you all have that one before? Well, because of its simplicity, usefulness to both consumers and business owners, it captures the imagination of a fledgling YouTube, or Google. I simply want to talk to someone to understand the "ins and outs" and explain the idea, which, I believe is doable. The concept has global implications on the scale of craigslist and the importance of using a browser for web surfing. I welcome a phone call to 281-728-5842 in the US (Central Time Zone) or email at (don't worry my day job is management consulting and not mobile development). Hi, my name is Bruce. I am an "old guy" who is trying to figure out how to write a .mobi site for my business. I seem to learn best by trial and error. More errors than success. I am hoping that I can get helpful information resulting in fewer errors.
First question: What is the proper line or lines that go at the top of the page to properly stage the site for xhtml ?
You should probably be posting this in another section, but you could use this one:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML Basic 1.0//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml-basic/xhtml-basic10.dtd">
:) Welcome to mobiForge!
*edit* Oh I really can't wait to see that "Preview" button return ... :)
Lots of text does help SEO if and only IF those texts are actually not spam!
I am not new to the SEO game and I know I am quite good at it (I think *hick*) so my advice as a SEO freak will be to build a site for usability of the people visiting the site.
Search engine spiders cannot read anything else except texts (Google can read the a b c of flash but really that can be neglected).
Don't make a site with flash and flash only unless you know what you are doing and setting up texts in the flash boxes as xml. You should have tried MoFuse as that service is much more easier to deploy when it comes to mobi transformation.

Hello my name is Rick and I am from Wisconsin. I am always looking toward the future and although some are skeptical I am sure that one way or another most sites will become more mobile friendly whether .mobi is the the big thing or even if web development standards change or are geared toward mobile friendly in the .com world. The problem is for me is I am alright at developing simple html sites for business that do not use all the bells and whistles. For me people want very fast loading and simple to navigate. Where is a good place to begin learning the correct way to develop a .mobi site.

Welcome to the the mobiForge Introductions forum. This 'Introductions' forum is a place for you to introduce yourself - tell us that you are alive, and let us know what your interests are.
I'm Brian.
I've read your Developers' Guide and I find it very interesting. Is your programme good for someone that knows nothing about developing mobile applications. I'm 53 years and am not entirely computer illiterate. I'd like to learn to develope applications for mobiles: It'll be good for my "old age": Keep the mind active. Seriously, I'd like to start with specific applications like bus and train time tables, interractive application to make doctors' appointments, on the move, in conjunction with my national health website. I don't know how easy or difficult it will be, but I'm prepared to slog.
The Developer's Guide does assume some knowledge of desktop web programming but it shouldn't be too hard to pick up. To learn the basics you could try some of the tutorials on http://www.w3schools.com/ My advice would be to simply start playing around -- you can't do any damage by trying to create a few sample pages, and view the results on your phone. Once you have tried a few static pages you can experiment with dynamic content that is generated on the fly. To do this you will probably need to learn a programming language such as PHP or Python (though there are many others). Best of luck!
Hello - I just signed up. I am interested in developing a banking application for the mobile devices but I am so not technical even with the simple guides - is there anyone out there that can develop mobile applications? Thanks.

Just built m3pilot.mobi to complement www.m3pilot.com.
One challenge I enjoyed is the need for economy of words.
Used online tool for the .mobi but hope to learn to write the code myself.
Want to have more control and get better SEO.
Some say that big pages, lots of text helps SEO.
Don't know if that's true.

Hi,
My name is Niall. I'm an application developer.
I m based in Dublin, Ireland and looking to team up with developers in a start-up company to develop mobile applications. I would like to meet up with Android Developers or Symbian Developers.
If you are interested let me know.

Do you think I can do it?
Thanks
Brian

Brian,
The Developer's Guide does assume some knowledge of desktop web programming but it shouldn't be too hard to pick up.
