Low Fat or Full Fat, it’s still One Web

Well, doesn’t time fly? Just over a year ago I posted on One Web and what I think it means. A year or so later, what has changed? Well, firstly I think that there are a lot more made-for-mobile Web sites. Secondly, the term “One Web” continues to be used to describe the consumption of desktop oriented sites on mobile devices. For example, a post from Alan Patrick last weekend: there are currently 2 main schools of thought - (i) define a unique "mobile web", and (ii) make devices better at coping with existing web content. Planning Operator Mobile Portal

Almost every Mobile Operator, who are providing GPRS/Edge/3G etc services have their own mobile portal or they plan to have one as soon as possible. This operator mobile portal contributes a big part in that operator's data service revenue. The user experience of this portal has to be very comfortable for the users. Regulatory Changes Can Increase Service Penetration

Every country has a Telecom Regulatory body which decides upon the strategic points to enhance the telecom penetration in their country. Most of time this regulatory body seems like the police force to the telecom operators. Because most of the regulations they prepare are mostly related to telecom business. Lowering the Barriers

As a recent arrival at dotMobi, I am very pleased to be able to work with an organisation that has such a simple objective as "Work to reduce or remove the barriers to growth of the mobile web". Simple in the sense that it is simply defined, execution is another story.
