Fixit – Favicon

This test determines if your page has a Favicon which is a suitable size and is delivered with a far-future expiry header. All browsers will request a Favicon on page load and so it is recommended to have one, but also one which is small enough to transfer quickly and which can be cached properly.

Checking for Favicon

This test checks to see if the page has a Favicon available which is less than 2kb in size and is delivered with a far-future expiry. If no Favicon is found, one is found larger than 2kb or one is delivered without a far-future expiry, then the test reports a FAIL.

If you receive a FAIL for this test, you should consider installed a Favicon which is small in filesize and correctly cachable.

This test is based on a YSlow best practice. See yslow.org/faq/ for more details.
