For those who haven't seen it yet, we've gone live with ready.mobi v2.0 (We were going to call v1.1, but the new features are so cool we figured it was worth bumping up to 2.0).
Version 2.0 rocks. New features include
- Site-wide testing – enter one URL and let ready.mobi crawl and test each page of your site
- Crawler management – stop and start site crawlers, and see colour-coded results in real-time
- Account management – login with your mobiForge account, and view the progress of your site testing, and your previous test results
- More emulators – now there are more handsets for you to preview your pages on
We have also improved the legacy single page testing feature, by improving its responsiveness, the graphing (no more Flash), and the download time.
We're really excited about the new site-testing features – I thought it'd be worth taking a quick walk-through.
On the landing page, you can now choose between single Page testing (the old ready.mobi) and Site testing. Page testing performs mobileOK basic tests and dotMobi compliance tests and scores your page between 1 and 5. Its the new Site testing feature that we're excited about – this feature looks for pages in your site, and scores each page automatically.
To use this feature you need to login. Why? Because testing all the pages of your site generates a lot of data, and it may take some time for ready.mobi to generate and for you to digest. Having an account means that you can go off and brush up on your dotMobi developer guidelines while ready.mobi does all the work. Come back when you choose, and when you login again ready.mobi will have stored all your previous page test results. This service is completely FREE to use – simply login with your free mobiForge account, and you're in!
So how does it work? Well, after you login, you can create a site crawler. Each site crawler takes a URL – the start page – and tests this page. It will then look for other pages in the site and test them too. As results are coming in you get a colour-coded summary of how well your site is doing.
If you click in to this you get a list of all the pages that were tested. For each page in the list you can click to expand out the details, where you will find a whole heap of goodies, such as page source (and tidied source if necessary), emulators, errors and warnings (as well as pass messages and comments), response headers, and a preview pane. And all this for each page!
You can sort your results using any of the column headings – sorting by score for example would allow you to find all problematic pages quickly. Well, there's lots to see, and you really need to see it for yourself, so be sure to visit http://ready.mobi and test your site today.
