We pushed out our first update to ready.mobi for some time last weekend. Well, you can stop salivating for now, as there are no new features to announce just yet; this release has focused on bug-fixes and such. Most notably version 2.1 includes:
- improved CSS parsing
- better image handling
- tidied HTML output for detailed test results
- and various minor bugfixes for good measure
We have also made a minor change to the overall scoring algorithm in its treatment of page size. Note that we have not touched the MobileOK page-size test at all; just a slight modification to the way the actual page-size contributes to the final ready.mobi score. If you notice a slight improvement in your score, this is probably why (or maybe the mobile Internet code pixies just happen to like you).
To help you out when things go wrong, we have also expanded our support documentation on mobiForge with this version. Whenever a test fails, or whenever you receive a warning, you will see a link. Each of these links brings you through to a specific fixit article on mobiForge which addresses the problem you are experiencing. With this version we’ve increased our coverage of these fixit articles.
And now, looking to the future. As John mentioned in a previous post, we are stepping the ready.mobi development machine up a gear. Right now we are working on a web API which will allow you to mash ready.mobi into your applications in all kinds of fun ways. When this is complete we plan to run a private beta trial. We will do a more formal invite to this trial when the time comes, but if you are already interested please email us at tech@mtld.mobi and we’ll invite you directly when it’s ready.
That’s all for now – stay tuned for updates.
