As mobiThinking published the inaugural Top Ten mobiThinkers, we were asked the following questions by the daily newsletter Mobile Marketer. For anyone who isn’t a reader, the answers are below.
We’d perhaps add one question of our own: Why did you published the Top Ten? Because the work and vision of these ten individuals – brought together here for the first time – should inspire every marketer from those brands that are new to mobile marketing, to the seasoned mobile veterans. Between them, these ten profiles have almost every corner of mobile Web marketing covered.
MM: How did you pick this crop?
mT: We asked the people we respected in the mobile business to nominate their heroes. We restricted nominations to people who were actively engaged at an agency or brand level.
We created a shortlist of those who were nominated most frequently and/or stood out and then argued a lot until we came up with ten that represented a cross section of the best from different areas of mobile marketing and from different parts of the globe.
It wasn’t easy – as you know, there are so many excellent candidates in mobile marketing.
MM: What was the common DNA among the thinkers?
mT: Each of them are ‘doers’, though some are more active on the creative side, others on the business development side. We also looked for unique vision and evidence of evangelism of the cause as above and beyond self-promotion.
The key was that the rest of us can learn from each of them – so each profile highlighted their best practice campaigns etc, rather than regurgitating a biography.
MM: Have they pushed the envelope for mobile?
mT: Yes, all. And we hope that by drawing attention to this body of mobile creativity and best practice, we can inspire more brands to embrace mobile.
MM: Is this the first time mobiThinking has compiled this list?
mT: Yes. And we’ll do it again readily. It was educational.
