As mentioned in our first official mobiForge newsletter, as a tribute to dev.mobi, the site that mobiForge once was, we thought it would be fun to put together a time-line of notable moments in its two year life. We feel that dev.mobi, has done a great job of serving the mobile development community, and has very much helped to make the mobile Internet dream a reality. We’re very proud of what we’ve achieved so far. So here’s the longer version of the shorter version in the newsletter:
[Nov 2006] Dev.mobi is born
Dev.mobi is launched officially on November 6th 2006. We choose the Mobile 2.0 event in San Francisco as the venue to unveil the site. We launch ready.mobi at the same time and give away some offensively turquoise T-shirts printed especially to mark the occasion. They carry the slogan “Does my page look big in this?”

[Feb 2008] Launch of DeviceAtlas
We announce our solution to one of the most difficult problems in mobile – device detection. DeviceAtlas is our device database, and works by intelligently synthesizing all the sources of device information that we can find. Since launch, DeviceAtlas has been evaluated and adopted by some very big companies for their device detection needs. It has APIs in a whole bunch of popular languages, and makes it incredibly easy to build content-adapting sites. [more…]
