The Mobile Financial Services Summit (MFS) brings together a who’s who of banks, mobile operators, handset manufacturers and payment providers to share best practices and a wealth of case studies on m-banking, m-wallets and m-ticketing.
The conference tackles MFS from all angles including m-banking, m-payment, m-commerce and mobile remittance (i.e. the sending of money to someone at a distance) as well as how mobile can help cure global issues such as banking the unbanked.

• Teppo Paavola, vice president and general manager for mobile financial services, Nokia. The world’s top mobile manufacturer is setting up partnerships with operators, banks, retailers, agents and local service providers to bring Nokia Money to developing countries, starting with India, where Nokia is running trials with Yes Bank.
• Joanne Avendano, technical group head, G-Exchange Inc (GCASH). Philippines mobile operator Globe Telecom set up GXI to run its GCASH mobile wallet, that allows customers to deposit, withdraw funds, send and receive money, make purchases, pay utility bills, tuition fees, make donations to charity and top up mobile credit.
• Ichwansyah Putra, product development manager for mobile commerce, Indosat. Indonesia’s number two mobile operator launched its mobile banking services in 2003, and today it works with 34 banks, providing mobile banking to 2.5-3 million customers. In November 2009 its mobile wallet.
Other speakers of note include:
• Takeo Tohara, president and CEO, Jibun Bank, Japan. Jibun is Japan’s pioneering mobile-only bank, set up in July 2008 by Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ, the largest bank, and KDDI, Japan’s second largest telecoms carrier, it now has 900,000 accounts and 14 billion in Japanese yen deposits (approx US$1,550 million).
• Rob Jonker, director, emerging payment streams, Deutsche Bank AG. Deutsche Bank offers secure mobile payment and mobile remittance services from any mobile device on any network. Deutsche Bank plans to integrate m-payments into its merchant acquiring and private banking solutions. For B2B transactions, Deutsche Bank will combine m-payments with its corporate cash management solutions.
• Dr P.K. Goel, chief administrative officer- IT projects, Ministry of Railways, India. Today 15,000 train tickets are booked by mobile each month through IRCTCmobile, but has the potential to be the first mass market adoption of mobile payment worldwide.
• Bin Zhang, general manager, Union Mobile Pay, China. Union Mobile Pay is the leading mobile payment services company in China with hundreds of millions of users.
• Other speakers include: Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, Yes Bank, SingTel, Citi, Visa Worldwide, SingTel, Mobile Marketing Association, Global Yellow Pages, the Electronic Money Association; PayPal; paythru; Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), Mobey Forum; Motorola; Telecom Research Project and Rêv Worldwide.
