DeviceAtlas version 1.0.2

Updates keep flowing to the production server as we add new features to the database and to the web interface. Today we have released a few updates that you can see on our website. A lot have asked for more detailed information about properties and while we thought most names would be self-explanatory it is always good to have a quick handbook to look at...

A snapshot of the mobile web

One of the nice side effects of crawling the mobile web for find.mobi is that we have a good idea of exactly what is out there. One thing that find.mobi does which is a bit different to the other mobile search engines out there is that it captures screenshots of mobile web pages as it crawls. As an experiment (with a tip of the hat to Russell Beattie's annual phone model images 2008 2005 2004) I pulled a selection of find.mobi's thumbnails and assembled them into a contact sheet. Preview below, higher resolution versions in page attachments...

DeviceAtlas tutorial for PHP

We've just published the first tutorial that explains how to use the DeviceAtlas API in your applications. We open our "tutorials section" with PHP basic integration and of course Java and .NET will follow shortly. Remember that the different API's are very consistent (respecting language syntax and coding standards, of course) so it should be possible to take inspiration from the PHP tutorial and apply it to other languages...

Welcome to our 10,000th user!

Hello everyone. We just reached new milestone - our 10,000th dev.mobi subscriber. We launched dev.mobi just over a year ago. We thought it was important for the mobile development community to have a single, independent source of information to help make the whole medium a success. It's fine having brilliant handset-specific and network-specific sites, but at the end of the day, which developers only develop for one make of handset or one network operator? Very few. So hopefully we fill a well-needed role in your bookmarks list :-)...

DeviceAtlas 1.0.1.1

A few minor issues were reported in the purchase process so we decided to release a quick fix. I have also updated the official changelog, but let me explain a few new things that we just added. Users are now allowed to edit the shipping address, so if you need to change or update it, you can do it from your user's homepage in DeviceAtlas. VAT number is now also stored as part of your address, so you can edit from the same page...

Do you use Blogger? Need a mobile template? We recently had a request in our forums for a mobile template for Blogger, and a few searches later ('blogger mobile template' etc.) and I knew how to post to a Blogger blog from my phone, but not how to make it accessible to mobile users...Blogger uses a template system which allows users to create and customise their own templates...
